OUTBREAK

It was a typical night at J's bar. Some uninvited guest crashed the party. Our race for survival was just beginning...

J's Bar

You'll begin the scenario at J's Bar. The starting spot differs depending on the character chosen. Yoko will start inside the Women's Bathroom. If Mark is chosen as a playable character or is your AIPC partner, (he will always appear as an AIPC partner for every character if Mark isn't chosen) an NPC named Bob will accompany you. Will is incapacitated and there is nothing you can do for him. There are a decent number of items to grab. The counter near where Kevin would start has a Handgun if playing on Easy or Normal difficulties. On Hard and Very Hard, a Butcher Knife will be there instead. Depending on difficulty, there are a few Special Items you can obtain.

There is a Playing Manual file here located near the Men's Bathroom in Single Play Mode which explains some of the basics of the controls. Bear in mind, as the file says, that reading it doesn't pause the game. Your goal here is to open the door leading upstairs.

J's Bar

(Optional)

Unlike the Women's Bathroom, the Men's Bathroom has a Handgun located by the trash. On higher difficulties you need to enter the Men's Bathroom in order to get it. A Green Herb will by the sink on all difficulties except Very Hard.

OUTBREAK: Text

J's Bar
→ Women's Bathroom
(Optional)

There's nothing of value here. Yoko will start here. There is a Scrub Brush that is next to the stall closest to the door. If you examine the sink close to where the Zombie Hands are, there is a Special Item here which is the best one to determine exactly what set you have. Don't bother attacking the hands, although you can deplete its vitality points and permanently remove them, it is a waste of time and resources.

OUTBREAK: Text

J's Bar
→ Staircase Between 1F and 2F

There will be a Playing Manual 2 file near the cupboard from the door you entered. This file will explain about the different statuses that the characters can undergo as their health decreases. After the first flight of stairs you'll notice a Green Herb by the window. If you plan on grabbing it, approach it carefully, as a zombie will burst through the window in an attempt to grab and pull players out of the window. Zombies that hang through windows are capable of respawning if they're killed. However, if they manage to pull a character out of the window, that character will immediately die and the zombie will not respawn for the remainder of the scenario. Overall, ignore the zombies and proceed up the stairs.

Staircase Between 1F and 2F
→ Staff Room

This area has four different rooms to enter. While most of them are not necessary, some have items that can help players. A zombie that is hunched down will animate and will patrol the entire 2F section. It can be killed, but after a while it will respawn or come back to life with full vitality points. On Hard and Very Hard, another zombie wearing a brown suit, will spawn further into the Staff Room near the Owner's Room. This zombie can be killed permanently on the Very Hard difficulty only but it will respawn by the stairwell on the Hard difficulty, otherwise it will patrol the entire 2F along with the other zombie potentially causing trouble. If you're carrying Bob, he'll position himself in the center of the room until you unlock the door leading to the Liquor Room.

The most notable item you'll find here is the Nail Gun. Only appearing in this scenario, the Nail Gun has two functions: it can be used to create a barricade giving you more time to search around (be mindful if you do this as you can trap your AIPC partners or other players forcing them to either destroy the barricade or wait for the zombies to destroy it). Also, if you're escorting Bob, there is a special cutscene that triggers when all characters are in the Staff Room after the barricade has been made. Secondly, the Nail Gun can be equipped as used as a weapon. It doesn't have a lot of power and it gets significantly weaker when used at longer distances. Also, if you use it as a weapon, you'll be unable to make the barricade as it requires all 20 nails to complete this task.

You'll find a Newspaper on the table. Grabbing this will give you a file, but afterwards, it is useless on its own. In this area, your goal is to find the Key with Blue Tag and use it on the door leading to the Liquor Room.

Staff Room

(Optional)

There isn't much in this room. The Map for the entire J's Bar can be found in the trash (if playing as Cindy, she'll automatically have the map and you don't have to obtain it). If you examine the bed, your character will crawl underneath. This can be used to hide and lose the aggro of zombies in the room. An Iron Pipe is found here on all difficulties except Very Hard. On Very Hard the Storage Room Key will be here instead. Unfortunately, if playing as Mark, he cannot crawl under the bed to obtain the items there. If you examine the open dresser, you'll find Handgun Rounds there except on Very Hard.

→ Locker Room
(Optional)

A room filled with lockers, if you approach the lockers and press the Action button, you can open the lockers to find items. On Very Hard difficulty, you'll find 45. Auto Rounds here instead of the Drawing Room. There is a locker that has a Mr. Raccoon sticker placed on it, sadly only Cindy can open it. This will grant her some herbs that she can place in her Herb Case. Also depending on difficulty, a Special Item will be there as well. There are two lockers, when opened, a character will enter and can be used to temporarily hide. The lockers are too narrow for Mark to enter so he is the only character that cannot use them. As long as a character stays quiet, zombies will ignore characters inside lockers. However, if they make noise, it will aggro the zombie and they will attack the locker forcing the character out and preventing them from using it again.

Diary of Bar's Staff file can be found inside the lockers along with another locker holding an Anti-Virus Pill which can be useful to stall your virus.

As soon as you enter the Drawing Room, you'll notice the Lighter immediately in front of you. Grabbing it has a few uses it can be combined with a Paper+Bottle to create Molotov Cocktails. There is a scenario event tied to using the Lighter to reveal secret locations. Even if you ignore these, the Lighter will be important later on in the scenario. You'll find Handgun Rounds (Shotgun Rounds if playing on Easy) and 45. Auto Rounds as well except on Very Hard difficulty. If playing on any difficulty other than Easy, a crow will burst through the window and attack. This is tied to a scenario event but you can kill it to rid yourself of the nuisance.

There is a cabinet at the end of the Drawing Room which only Alyssa can open using her Picking Tools and using the correct pick to unlock.

Staff Room
→ Liquor Room

Entering the Liquor Room, there is a door near the entrance that leads to the Wine Room. Further down the Liquor Room there are Alcohol Bottles that can be grabbed. The bottles have two purposes: you can combine it with a Newspaper to create a Paper+Bottle then combine with a Lighter to create 5 Molotov Cocktails. The second, is for the bottle to be taken back to the Owner's Room and used on the painting that has a hole on it. If playing on Hard or Very Hard difficulties, a zombie will be here. There is a shutter which cannot be opened normally. A Forklift doesn't work and has cargo which can be lifted and used to help reach the shaft up above. If playing on Hard or Very Hard difficulty, grab an Alcohol Bottle and head back to the Staff Room.

To play it safe and avoid being potentially overwhelmed by the zombies on the stairs back in the Staff Room, hold the door and wait for all three zombies to attack the door then go through it. That way they will not be lurking on the stairwell on your way down. It is also important to note that you don't want to hang around the Liquor Room for too long if the zombies manage to break in. After a while they'll begin to move towards the end of the Liquor Room and will attack any characters there and will run heavy interference if you're attempting to break open the shutter or use the Forklift. Killing them will stop them from causing trouble but they'll eventually respawn back at the door entrance to the Liquor Room.

OUTBREAK: Text

Liquor Room
→ Wine Room
(Optional on Hard and Very Hard difficulties)

The barrel on your character's right will have ammo depending on the difficulty you're playing on. Magnum Revolver Rounds on Easy, Shotgun Rounds on Normal, and Handgun Rounds on Hard. You'll find the Play Single Player Mode file on the ground on the left side. On Easy and Normal difficulties there will be a First Aid Spray on the table on the right as well as the Forklift Key.

There is a Typewriter here and your first one. You can save your progress if you like but bear in mind it'll take you back to the main menu if you decide to use it.

OUTBREAK: Text

Liquor Room
→ Staff Room
(Optional on Easy and Normal difficulties)

Climb down the stairs and proceed to the Owner's Room. The good news is the three stalker zombies will no longer terrorize the 2F, therefore, if you want to take the time to check the other rooms you might have possibly ignored, you can do so now. The bad news is the single zombie that patrols the entire 2F will still be here and will possibly invade any rooms you may enter (two zombies on Hard and Very difficulties if you left the zombie with the brown suit alive).

OUTBREAK: Text

Staff Room
→ Owner's Room
(Optional on Easy and Normal difficulties)

Approach the painting and use the Alcohol Bottle on it. It will remove the locking mechanism on the desk nearby. Approach the desk and press the Action button to open it. The Forklift Key will be found here on Hard and Very Hard difficulties. Jack's Memo will also be inside the desk. If playing on Easy difficulty, a Magnum Revolver will be inside the desk. On Normal difficulty, there will be a Shotgun here.

Once you have the Forklift Key (if playing on the higher difficulties), proceed back to the Liquor Room.

OUTBREAK: Text

Owner's Room
→ Staff Room
(Optional on Easy and Normal difficulties)

There's nothing more to do here but continue up the stairs to the Liquor Room. If you haven't explored any of the other rooms and or are worried about your resources, this will be your last chance to do so as with the Forklift Key in tow, there is no longer any point to be on the 2F.

OUTBREAK: Text

Wine Room / Staff Room
→ Liquor Room

Approach the Forklift and use the Forklift Key to apply power then examine it for a message display to appear to move the cargo up. Once the cargo has been lifted, proceed to use the ladder to climb up and then crawl to the shaft up above.

If you're escorting Bob, you'll need to climb up and enter the shaft leading to Stairs between 3F and the rooftop , open the shutter from there, then head back to the Liquor Room and grab Bob. If playing with AIPCs or other players, they can open the shutter for you allowing you to leave the Liquor Room without crawling to the open shaft and more easily carry Bob up. If doing this be careful, as the zombies that manage to reach the end of the Liquor Room will begin to attack any characters lingering around.

ZOMBIE SHUTTER OPENING METHOD

It is possible for the zombie that spawns in the Liquor Room to open the shutter for players by positioning it properly and cause the zombie to attack the shutter. The videos above are different methods that work with specific characters. The last video using Yoko applies to Mark, Jim, Alyssa, and Cindy as well since they do not have an alternate way in heavy stunning the zombie. This tactic works online as well but be careful as the zombie may behave differently and changes if the zombie is lagging.

After entering the Rooftop, Crows will begin flying at you and will attempt to attack you. It is highly recommended you kill them as there is an action you'll further need to perform and if you fail it, you risk being instantly killed if the Crows are left alive. There is a Green Herb hiding in a corner on the right side from the door you exited from. Proceed to the other side of the roof. There will be a zombie there except if playing on the Easy difficulty. There is a Newspaper on the ground near the Storage Room's door. If you got the Storage Room Key, you can unlock the door. Otherwise the door can be forced with weapons, attacks or unlocked with Alyssa's Picking Tools. If you intend to enter the Storage Room, do so first before you attack the broken section of the fence as once it breaks open a cutscene will trigger immediately.

In Network Play Mode, the fence can be broken and not trigger the cutscene but it will activate as you proceed towards the giant sign post. If you're doing the "Read all graffities" scenario event, you'll need to start it now because once you proceed further, you will not have time to backtrack to find the other hidden locations.

After the cutscene, continue straight ahead the platform until you come across a ledge. You must time and jump to reach the other building. If the crows were kept alive, they can potentially kill a character that has failed to make the jump. Once you reach the other side, you'll find Handgun Rounds straight head on the Easy and Normal difficulties but a Green Herb will be here instead on the Very Hard difficulty. Head for the door further ahead.

You might need to get in an extra tackle or stun to safely enter.

Or simply stall for a few minutes and wait for the next cutscene to trigger on its own. The latter will take longer but this will ensure any stragglers that are still trying to make it outside make it in time. However, if the opposition is proving to be more trouble than you can handle then it isn't a bad idea to stall and let enough time elapse on its own.

The type of enemies you will face from this area onward is based on difficulty. In Single Play Mode, you will face zombies from the Easy and Normal difficulties. On Hard and Very Hard difficulties, you will encounter Scissor Tails instead. In Network Play Mode, players will deal with zombies on the Easy, Normal, and the Hard difficulty, but will face Scissor Tails instead on the Very Hard difficulty. You already know what to expect from zombies at this point, however, the difference this time around is their numbers and there will be a lot of them and things can easily get out of control if they wind you down and a bunch of them gather up.

Scissor Tails are a bit different than zombies. They have more vitality points but their raw damage output is not as great as zombies. Scissor Tails focus more on debilitating your character with status ailments such as Bleed and Poison rather than actual damage. Scissor Tails can become more overwhelming if they inflict Bleed or Poison so having Blue Herbs, Antidotes, and First Aid Sprays for full recovery and Bleed removal are useful. Also, the Pesticide Spray which was found at J's Bar works against Scissor Tails provided if you kept it for that long. Molotov Cocktails are hands down the best weapons to use against them although the creatures don't have any weakness to fire.

Now that you know what to expect, it is time to act. If you intend to create the barricades, you can approach the patrol vehicle closest to you and push it. If you try and proceed further back, you'll come across a dead end. There is a random chance of hearing a scream here. If you don't hear it, you'll have to try again on a subsequent playthrough. Push the first vehicle until it doesn't move any further. Bear in mind that enemies and characters can block the vehicle if they get in the way. Raymond will attack any opposition that tries to approach. His Shotgun packs a better punch than yours. Enemies will overall ignore Raymond unless an attack happens to accidentally connect with him. Any enemies killed will respawn further back. In Network Play Mode, the patrol vehicle positioned sideways will have the driver side door open revealing items inside once you properly push the vehicle enough.

There is a Map on the other side of the sideways parked patrol vehicle near Raymond. Proceed forward. If you examine the trunk of the sideways parked vehicle near the bar entrance, you'll find a Shotgun here on Easy, Normal, and Hard difficulties, with a Handgun being here instead on the Very Hard difficulty. Position in front of the patrol vehicle on the left and continue to push it. Once both patrol vehicles have been successfully positioned, a cutscene will trigger leading everyone to the next area.

WARNING: If any AIPC partners or players are still trying to make it outside during the countdown sequel and you managed to trigger the cutscene after successfully pushing both patrol vehicles to proceed ahead, all straggling partners will be killed instantly.

OUTBREAK: Text

In Front of J's Bar
→ Behind the Apartment

Similar to the first area, you have two choices here. Either assist Raymond with attacking the large wooden door straight ahead or stall and keep the waves of enemies off his back until the door runs out of structural points. The double wooden doors have the largest structural points in the game and require a massive amount of resources to deplete. On higher difficulties, this is more difficult, due to the shorter abundance of ammunition while the door will have larger structural points. At which point, it is better to just have Raymond focus on attacking the door. Since Raymond uses a Shotgun against the doors, the base damage value he inflicts against it is a value of 1250, so he'll be depleting 1250 points off of the door with each shot. On easier difficulties, considering the weapons and large amount of ammo you can get up to this point of the scenario, it is possible to fully deplete the door's structural points before the opposition even makes it to you.

Another problem is the type of opposition. If dealing with zombies, certain zombies will beeline towards Raymond and attack him exclusively. Anytime Raymond is attacked or grabbed, it simply means it'll take longer for him to break down the door and puts your team in more danger. Fortunately, this is not the case with Scissor Tails. Scissor Tails will focus mainly on your team. Scissor Tails will attack Raymond if only accidentally. On a brighter note, Scissor Tails can be easily manipulated and can become inactive for a brief moment if you make them pounce at a wall when they're facing at the wall. They will climb up and hang on the wall for a bit before they either jump down or climb off. Overall, as far as Raymond is concerned, he cannot be killed so there is no need to be concerned with that.

The section has weapons, ammunition, and recovery items lying about on the ground you can use. Depending on the situation, it may be risky to grab them. Kill enemies if you really need to, otherwise try as best as you can to avoid them and not take damage. All enemies killed here will just respawn infinitely. Once the door's structural points have been depleted a cutscene will trigger.

Behind the Apartment
→ Slope Along the Canal

After the cutscenes have resolved and you gain control of your character, you need to release the gas from the Tanker up ahead in front of you. Raymond leaves behind his Shotgun which you can grab. On Very Hard difficulty, the Shotgun will not be fully loaded and will only have 4 rounds left in it. The Lighter is on Raymond's body. However, if you grabbed the Lighter back from the Drawing Room at J's Bar and have kept it to this point of the scenario then you can ignore it. Like with the last area, avoid the enemies as even if you kill them, they'll just respawn.

Approach the back of the Tanker and examine it for a message display to release the gas. A cutscene will trigger showing the gas being spilled onto the ground. Once the cutscene ends, you need to position your character on the dry side of the ground and use the Lighter (if any AIPC partners or players are standing anywhere on the wet sections of the floor, you'll be unable to use the Lighter). After a couple of cutscenes, the entire area is covered in fire and you need to escape. Approach the ledge and jump into the canal. As you swim towards the openings on the walls another cutscene will trigger with the Tanker exploding. Anyone who didn't jump off in time will be instantly killed. Once the cutscene finishes, proceed to the wall opening and climb up.

OUTBREAK: Text
Event 17 B.png

If you do not jump into the canal within a few minutes after the cutscene, the Tanker will explode instantly killing anyone who did did not jump into the water. Despite dying, it unlocks a scenario event so you only need to do this once and save so it permanently stays on your records.

OUTBREAK: Guides

Slope Along the Canal
→ Tunnel

There is not much to do in the tunnel. There are herbs at the far end section heading south, and more herbs at the north side climbing down the lead. Proceed further in the tunnel until you come across a ladder. Climb up to exit the tunnel.

NOTE: If the cutscene with the Tanker Exploding hasn't occurred yet, you'll be unable to climb the ladder.

OUTBREAK: Text

Tunnel
→ In Front of Apple Inn

After climbing out of the manhole, you'll find a Green Herb on the far north right side of the alley. On lower difficulties, there will be another Green Herb by the deli entrance. Continue west of the street, you'll notice two survivor NPCs. Talking to them does nothing except some text dialogues. There is a Raccoon Today file on the newspaper stand in the back. You'll notice a police officer walking and then standing idle shortly afterwards. Talking to him will trigger a cutscene for all survivors to be in the area. If any AIPC partners or players are still in the tunnel, you'll be forced to wait a few extra minutes for the next cutscene until everyone arrives in front of the Inn.

A few more cut scenes will trigger.

In Front of Apple Inn
→ Behind the Residential Area

You'll be positioned just outside of the van. Inside the van you'll notice it is packing massive weapons and ammo depending on the difficulty you're playing on. This is for if you intend to take a specific route which will be explained later on. There is a Typewriter here if you wish to save (honestly, there is no point, you're nearly done with the scenario anyways). Once you're done with preparations, proceed to the right side of the van (Ignore the 2 NPCs here, they do nothing to advance the scenario). You can ignore Dorian as well as he does nothing...yet.

Head up the flight of stairs and proceed up the alley. Near the opened window you'll find the powerful Magnum Revolver. It is here on every difficulty except on Very Hard with the exception if you're playing on Network Play Mode. Continue up the stairs to head to the Footbridge.

OUTBREAK: Text

Behind the Residential Area
→ Footbridge

Continue deeper into the bridge until a cutscene triggers in which you'll see how badly the zombie epidemic has quickly escalated. After the cutscenes have resolved, from here you have two choices. One, return back to the van Behind the Residential Area and talk to Dorian. A message display will ask if you wish to enter the van again. If you select yes, the scenario will end. However, if you decide to want to assist the officers up ahead, continue forward and climb down the flights of stairs to enter the Main Street.

If you feel you're not prepared enough, you can backtrack back to the van to pick up more weapons and ammo, but if you feel you're geared enough to take on the hordes of zombies then continue on. If you're attempting to eventually get 100% for scenario events, you'll have to take both routes eventually. If you're trying to complete more objectives for more result points upon scenario completion, then taking on the zombies up ahead is the determined route. You earn points for using the Detonator while either escaping or blowing up the zombies are worth the same amount of points. Returning back to the van merely means saving you time and potentially ensuring the "No Damage Clear" and "No Weapons Clear" bonuses without putting yourself at risk at the Main Street.

Read on if you wish to eliminate the zombies.

OUTBREAK: Text

Footbridge
→ Main Street

It's a zombie's paradise on Main Street! Your task here is to assemble the broken detonator and use it on the main fuse box that is centered in the middle of the street. Harry will tell you what needs to be done if you talk to him. He'll even drop his Handgun to help you should you need it (on Hard and Very Hard difficulties, there is a bug where the Special Item here will become completely unavailable if you talk to Harry, so if you're trying to get 8 Special Items or trying to get this specific item in particular, get it first before talking to Harry).

You need to find the Detonator Handle and Detonator Main Unit then combine both together to create the Detonator then use it on the main fuse box in the center part of the street. The Detonator Handle is located on the west section of the street near a dead officer's corpse. The Detonator Main Unit is located on the east section of the street. On easier difficulties, it is easy to spot but on higher difficulties it'll be located further back. Once you obtain both items, combine them then position your character anywhere next to the fuse box and use the Detonator to trigger a cutscene and complete the scenario!
